The Birth of Woodgrove Ascent
Years ago, when HDB approached Adviser Ms Hany Soh about an upcoming BTO launch in Woodgrove, she had an idea. Why not insert ‘Woodgrove’ into the name? HDB considered her idea, and eventually adopted it. They added a final flourish, naming it Woodgrove Ascent.
On 23rd August 2025, residents finally got a glimpse of their future homes.

Walking into the hall, there was a sense of nervous excitement in the air. Jeremy, the emcee, cheerfully engaged the crowd, asking one of them, “If you see a new neighbour, would you be the first to say hi in the lift?” The uncle considered and deadpanned, “No.”
Laughs came from the crowd, familiar with the awkward silence of meeting neighbours in the lift. Ms Hany encouraged the new residents to say hi to their new neighbours, and to build a neighbourhood they enjoyed living in.
Woodgrove Ascent itself already had many amenities within it. HDB shared how the neighbourhood was built upon the theme of “Wellness”. There were wide open spaces for residents to exercise, hardcourts for kids to play basketball and soccer, and even rooftop gardens to enjoy the breeze from up high.
Woodgrove Ascent is not just another new BTO—it’s also an opportunity to learn about the latest upgrades in your neighbourhood, discover what you might have missed, and find out what you can look forward to enjoying.

Town Brief? Woody, not “Ulu”
When you first moved to Woodlands, you might have thought of it as “ulu” (Singlish for remote). 鸟不生蛋 (niǎo bù shēng dàn), the Chinese would have called it, or the place where even birds do not lay eggs. But with upgrades like the Thomson-East Coast Line (TEL), Woodlands Central, and the upcoming RTS Link, Woodlands certainly doesn’t look that ulu anymore.
Making a neighbourhood where thousands of residents live, play, and work is no mean feat. It certainly takes a lot more thinking than you would have imagined. It’s definitely not as easy as stacking Legos onto an empty board.

Within each town design guide, there is a Town Theme. If you pass by Woodgrove Ascent and find it looking scenic and woody, would you like to take a guess what the Town Theme is?
If you guessed “Wooded,” you’re correct! In fact, the name Woodlands dates back to the 1880s, when a bungalow of the same name was built in the area.
Did You Know? HDB has a theme for the 24 towns in Singapore, and a town design guide to ensure that there is coherence and harmony to our urban environment.
Green Border
In the 19th century, Singapore’s coastline appeared heavily wooded from the opposite side of Woodlands, as the area was full of Keranji trees. After the opening of the Causeway in 1924, Woodlands started seeing an increase in the exchange of people and goods, resulting in its identity as a “border town of Singapore.”
It’s why Woodgrove Ascent has a neighbourhood planned around wellness, with tranquil greenery surrounding it.
